Discover the story behind auLit boutiques: one of the largest chains specializing in sleep products in Quebec.
The auLit’s family heritage
In 1947, Jean-Louis René founded his mattress manufacturing company in Nicolet, in the Centre-du-Québec region. Its products have stood out for their quality ever since.
Soon after, Matelas René became the largest independent mattress manufacturer in the province. In 1985, Jean-Louis René passed the torch to his sons who have proudly run the company to this day.
The auLit journey begins
In 1996, the network of auLit boutiques was born and established in several communities across Quebec. The purpose of this initiative was quite simple: improving the sleep of people from here.
With this extensive network, the auLit founders now offer Quebecers locally made mattresses. Driven to meet all of its customers’ needs, auLit added all sleep products to its selection.

With major investments to modernize its mattress manufacturing plant, a network of 12 stores and a solid team, auLit remains the benchmark for products that provide a healthy sleep.
Supported by a team of biomechanical researchers from the University of Sherbrooke, auLit constantly improves its products.
However, this research is not limited to innovation. They also seek to train Au Lit counsellors in sleep health. This allows them to offer unparalleled service and personalized advice.
